Epitaphs
Unless the Lord returns first I will die someday. So will you ! You already knew that, but consider the following . . .
Imagine that you have died, and someone who knew you very well is asked to say a few words describing the life you lived. What do you suppose they would, or could, say?
The apostle Paul very briefly summarized the life of king David. This is what he said:
“David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers.” (Acts 13:36)
What a wonderful tribute! What a marvelous way to distill the events of the life of the “man after God’s heart.”
Could such be said about your life? Can you truly say that your goal during your brief stay upon the earth is to serve the purpose of God in your own generation?
If we will seriously embrace this view of life, it will have a profound impact upon our priorities and help us to “set our minds on things above.”
What would our heavenly Father say if He were writing your epitaph?
