Mixing It All Together
A preacher attended a men’s breakfast in a rural farming area. An older farmer, decked out in bib-overalls, was asked to offer thanks. The farmer began, “Lord, I hate buttermilk.” The preacher opened one eye to glance at the farmer and wondered where this was going.
Next the farmer declared, “Lord, I hate lard.” The preacher grew concerned but decided to listen for more.
Without missing a beat, the farmer continued, “And Lord, you know I don’t much care for raw white flour.” The preacher now wondered if he was the only one to think this was a strange prayer.
The farmer finally added, “But Lord, when you mix them all together and bake them, I do love fresh warm biscuits. So, Lord, when things come up that we don’t like, when life gets hard, when we don’t understand what you’re doing, help us to just relax and wait until you’re done mixing it all together. It will probably be even better than biscuits. Amen.”
